Disc prolapse with nerve root compression :- Disc is made up of outer covering annulus fibrosus (helps to contain the nucleus pulposus and distribute forces across the disc) and inner jelly like central core nucleus pulposus (elastic , flexible under stress forces and to absorb compression). Outer covering of disc annulus fibrosus damage / tear causes inner nucleus pulposus to come out. This disc fragment / nucleus pulposus material compresses the nerve root which is supplying the legs / hands. This compression causes pain / numbness / tingling sensation / heaviness in legs / arm. Due to disc damage / tear patient feels neck pain or back pain. Due to nerve root compression patient feels pain in legs or arms
